With the launch of Project 483, views of getting 483006 mobile once again, much work to be done on 483008 and of course events to attend across the country, we are seeking volunteers to join our dedicated team more keenly than ever.
There are multiple opportunities to get involved, both on site and elsewhere. In addition to the ongoing work to ensure our units are kept in reasonable condition, 2024 will see more substantial work undertaken on 006 as well as, we hope, work to make 008 and the Willesden Bogie presentable. Whether you have specialised knowledge which can help with certain tasks or are simply happy to wield a paintbrush or mop, there is a job for you! |
If you feel that you can't get down to the Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway but would still like to be involved with the group, we are looking for volunteers to help run our sales stand at model railway exhibitions and galas across the country, especially in the London and South East areas.
These events are crucial fundraising and publicity activities and if we can increase the number of volunteers available then we can attend more events and give some of our existing volunteers the chance to take a break! |
If practical restoration work or manning a sales stand doesn't sound like your sort of thing, but you would still like to be involved and have the opportunity to get up close and personal with our units then we will be wanting volunteers to help staff our units during site open days. Our two Class 483 units and the Willesden Bogie all have stories to tell, but we need volunteers to help us to tell them to visitors!
Carmarthenshire is a long way for many of our potential volunteers to travel; our current volunteers come from as far afield as Bedfordshire, Devon, Gwynedd and even Spain! Even one day of your time would be a huge help to us and we are always happy to welcome new people at our (usually monthly) working weekends. |
The Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway is easily reached by road from Junction 48 on the M4 Motorway, the railway itself being situated just off the B4309 to the South of Cynheidre.
By public transport, the railway may be reached using First South Wales' 195 bus from either Llanelli or Carmarthen, the stop being Cynheidre Old Colliery. Llanelli is served by both Great Western Railway and Transport for Wales trains from London, Manchester, Crewe, Shrewsbury, Bristol, Cardiff and Swansea.
